Starting in the Fall, Bickley Studios will offer 6 week courses in flame-working. In the mean time sign up for a 2 hour introductory workshop, available this summer, taught by one of our fantastic teachers.

Glass as Matter
LEVEL 1

Ages 12+ 
6 Week CLASS
1:15 min per session

In this 6 week course students will learn introductory techniques of flame-working also known as lamp-working. Flame-working is a glassblowing technique where a torch is used to melt the glass.  This introductory level class focuses on solid rock forms; Participants will will practicing stretching and shaping glass.
Student will leave this class knowing:
- Characteristics of Borosilicate Glass
- Glass Chemistry & Color Theory
- History of Glass Art
- Glass Vocabulary
- How to Make Welds & Sculpting Techniques
- How to Make Pendants

Glass as Matter
Level 2

PRE REQUISITE: GLASS AS MATTER LEVEL 1
In this course students will expand upon techniques learned in Level 1.  In Level 2 we further investigating the possibilities of Glass as Matter. Students will learn to work with glass in hollow states (ex. cups), PUT SOMETHING HERE.  Firing glass and kiln operations will be explained in further detail.

PRE REQUISITE: GLASS AS MATTER Level 2
Level 3 begins by refreshing what was learned in Level 1 and Level 2, students will test their motor skills by demonstrating each technique learned thus far. This will refresh and solidify knowledge while offering students more independence as they move through Level 3.  Our main objectives in Level 3 revolve around color. Up until this point students have been working with mostly clear glass. Level 3 digs deeper into color theory and understanding the chemistry behind colors and metal. During Level 3 students will focus on designing pendants.

- Metal Chemistry and Colors
- Advanced Design Techniques
- Implosions  
- Advanced Figurative Work

PRE REQUISITE: Glass as Matter Level 3
This course is designed for students who have completed Level 3 of Glass as Matter and are interested in independent study.  Alongside of the instructor, students will design their own projects complete with timelines, objectives and goals. This class allows for creative autonomy and independent exploration.
This class is particularly useful for people with "projects" in mind. Maybe you want to make your own dish ware, shot glasses, or jewelry. Students who are interested in applying for art school are sure to make use of this class as it will add to their portfolio. At the end of the class work will be professionally photographed and catalogue
